Church Organization

The Cumberland Presbyterian Church and the Second Cumberland Presbyterian Church are governed by 
certain representative bodies: sessions, presbytery,synod, and General Assembly. Each of these church
bodies in it's special areas responsibility has legislative, judicial, and executive authority, yet all are to be 
conducted in recognition of their interdependence and Christian mission.
It is the responsibility of these representative bodies, consistent with the church's constitution, to
determine matters of faith, practice, and government, propose forms of worship and witness, exercise 
discipline, and resolve appeals properly brought before them.

Worship Ministry 

1. The Worship Ministry will prepare all phases of the Worship experience as outlined in the responsibilities, with the exception of the portions of service as they relate to other ministries. The Worship Ministry will assess the need for Sub-committees and establish as required. All Sub-committees report directly to the Worship Ministry.

2. The Worship Ministry will work with the pastor and ministry teams in providing the Calendar of Events.

3. The Worship Ministry will act with full authority within the parameters as approved by session within that approved structure.

4. Matters needing approval from Session will be projects or causes that are not specified in this structure, or that are beyond the appropriation allowed within the general budget for worship.

5. Worship Ministry will arrange a monthly list of individuals to serve as ushers who cooperate with the Usher Chairman, the Elder of the Month.

6. Worship Ministry will sponsor Revival each year, as well as extend invitations to Christian singing groups periodically.

7. Worship Ministry works with CPWM Altar & Flowers Committee and Communion Committee including:

    • Setup and clean up of communion
    • Ordering communion elements and disposable communion cups
    • Changing of the paraments and candles

8. Worship Ministry monitors and updates usher and greeter responsibilities

9. Worship Ministry orders songbooks, pew Bibles, candles and wicks for candle lighter as needed.

10. Worship Ministry arranges for cleaning choir robes, communion linen, and paraments.

11. Worship Ministry decorates the Sanctuary for the Thanksgiving and Christmas seasons. Advent decorations include CPWM.

12. Worship Ministry assists the pastor in services of dedication and services of revival.

 
      


Mission & Outreach Ministry

  • The M&O Ministry works with the pastor and all other ministries reaching out to the unchurched through quarterly events in the community.

  • The M&O Ministry sponsors the Annual Missionary Sunday

  • The M&O Ministry supports the CPWM & Missions Program

  • The M&O Ministry sponsors the Mother’s Day/Father’s Day Remembrances.

  • The M&O Ministry works with the Worship Committee to facilitate the Annual Revival and the Calendar of Monthly Services.

  • The M&O Ministry supports the Clothes Closet.

  • The M&O Ministry sponsors the Annual Montgomery Bell Outing.

  • The M&O Ministry sponsors the Website.

  • The M&O Ministry’s greatest challenge is Recruitment & Retention. To facilitate this effort for visitors:

    • Persons who have missed church approximately one month will be beneficiary of phone calls from congregation expressing having missed them.

    • Persons who have missed church 2 consecutive months will be beneficiary of cards or personal letters from the congregation expressing they have been missed.

    • When guests are seen sitting in a pew or church dinners by themselves, members of the congregation are encouraged to invite them to sit together.

    • Various members of the congregation are encouraged to invite guests to be their guests at the Fellowship Meals.

    • The congregation is encouraged to invite guests to their homes.

    • Individuals of the congregation are encouraged to send guests a card or make a phone call or write a note expressing appreciation for guest’s attendance and the opportunity to meet them.

    • The congregation is encouraged to take their worship bulletins home and leave them with non-churched family, friends and acquaintances.

    • Guest cards will be distributed under the oversight of each Usher Chairman to guests of the church to be placed in the offering plates and forwarded to the pastor.

  • M&O Ministry should recommend an annual appropriation on missions and outreach to the Budget committee for the general budget.

  • This committee will act with full authority within the parameters of this structure. Matters needing approval from Session will be project or causes that are not specified in this structure, or that are beyond the appropriation allowed within the general budget for missions and outreach. This committee appoints sub-committees as assessed necessary and exercises general oversight over the sub-committee.

COMMUNICATIONS MINISTRIES TEAM 

SCOPE

Complimenting all other ministries of the CP Church in Mt. Juliet,

Serving as a consulting reservoir of creative communication talents

DUTIES

Advising communications projects

GOALS

Quality, Consistency and Positive Impact

in all church-related communications

 

A Communications Ministries Leadership Team should consist of the Minister, an Elder, and several others with skills related to the development of the public face of the CP Church in Mt. Juliet

Responsibilities : to develop and maintain standards of quality and consistency for all communications materials generated by the CP Church in Mt. Juliet.

Implimentation : Creating and/or advising all public relations and fellowship communications activities of the CP Church in Mt. Juliet

As Examples, in the Areas of

Signage – working with the maintenance team and whoever is responsible for what the signs say, and how they look, anywhere on the church property inside or out, and anywhere in the community

Website – working with the web site team to insure that its purpose is met (Fellowship Communications and/or Public Relations) consistent with the standards set for communications materials from the church

Newspapers – working with anyone presenting anything to newspapers representing the church (photos, ads, info interviews, invitations) to provide quality and a consistent message with visual impact

Mass Mailings – working with any group in the church, Vacation Bible School, CPWM, Outreach, etc. to create or review materials presented to insure quality and consistency

Bulletins/Programs – working with the church secretary to provide bulletins and programs for Sunday services, special events, etc., that promote interest, bespeak quality, and provide clear information to the fellowship and visitors alike

Letterhead/Stationery – working with the minister and Session to provide a logo or other identifying mark of the church that will be included in all stationery going out to the community from the minister or other officials in the church

Brochures – working with the Session,to produce brochures for weddings and other public rental services, with regulations, prices, and info to meet the same quality standards as advertisements and public announcements

Handouts to Visitors – working with the Session to create a summary of the CP Church in Mt. Juliet Past, Present, and Future that is updated, of high quality, and with positive visual impact

Public and Fellowship Audio/Video - working with anyone involved in recording and /or broadcasting tapes, radio spots, TV infomercials, CD’s, etc. to monitor for professional quality and a consistent message that complies with the standards set for all other forms of communication from the church

Telephone Answering Machine – working with the minister to insure that the messages played are high quality and that the system is easy for callers to use

Public e-mail address – working with the minister and church secretary to maintain a workable protocol for responding to both public and fellowship generated e-mail for the minister and others on staff or in leadership positions

Newsletter – working with the editor to insure that it meets all the standards set for communications from the CP Church in Mt. Juliet
