"A Family of God"

Who We Are

We Are:
We are a member of the Presbyterian and reformed family of churches. Our roots go back to the
Presbyterian beginnings in Switzerland and Scotland.

We have a distinct accent, life and ministry; and though similar, we differ from the Presbyterian
Church USA, the Presbyterian Church of America and the Reformed Churches.

We are Presbyterian in government rather than Congregational or Episcopal. We are a
connectional church related on all levels. As congregations we are related to the whole.
We Cumberland Presbyterians came out of the Presbyterian Church, Feburary 4, 1810, on the
American frontier, as the result of differances over theology, ministerial education, methods of
ministry, and the Great Revival of 1800.
We were the first Presbyterian body to ordain women for the ministry. We also ordain women as
church officers.
Cloyd's is a part of the Murfreesboro Presbytery of the Synod of Tennessee. Our denomination
headquarters is located in Memphis, Tennessee.
Mission Statement:
To prepare the church to reign with Christ by:
1) Leading others to a saving experience with Jesus Christ. (Matthew 28: 19-20)
2) Equipping the saints for the work of the ministry. (Ephesians 4: 11-13)
3) Collective experience for Christ centered worship by supplying incentive to worship and the
atmosphere for worship. (Matthew 4:10)
4) Building the church in maturity and numbers. (Acts 2:47
5) Practicing Christian stewardship over our time, talents, and possessions.
6) Facilitizing to meet the needs of all the fellowship.
Our Church Believes:
The Bible is the only infallible rule of faith practice.
The Holy Trinity is God the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
The Church, as the body of Christ, is in cooperation with all other denominations.
The Sacraments of the church are Baptism and the Lord's Supper.
Salvation is the gift of God and not the result of good works done by men. It is essential for every
person to come to a personal knowledge of Christ as his Savior.
We believe in the preservation of followers of God for He is able to keep that which is committed
to Him.
Our Church Offers:
A Church whose program is centered in the proclamation of Jesus Christ as
Lord and Savior.
A Church which takes seriously the bible and the traditional doctrines of the Christian
faith.
A Church with warmth and fellowship.
A Church where your service is needed.
How to Join Cloyd's Cumberland Presbyterian Church:

By Profession of Faith in Jesus Christ and Baptism: Publicly stating your faith in Christ and accepting Him as the Lord and Savior of your life is the first step in becoming a member of CCPC. This is followed with baptism, an act not necessary for one's salvation, but one that serves as a visible symbol of what Christ has done in a person's heart. Baptism is a prerequisite for church membership.

By Transfer of Letter: If you are a member of another Presbyterian Church, you might choose to transfer membership from that church to CCPC.

By Statement of Faith: If you are presently a member of another denomination, but have publicly professed faith in Christ and have experienced baptism, you may choose to join by a statement of your faith.

Should you feel led to join Cloyd's Presbyterian Church by a profession of faith, transfer of letter, or by statement of faith, come forward during the time of decision at the close of the sermon and express your desire to Pastor Reese.
